After he finished his Medicine and Endocrine Fellowship in Vancouver, Canada, he joined Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, for a Diabetes Fellowship. He is currently the Head of the Internal Medicine Department of Mubarak AL Kabeer Hospital, the Head of the Endocrinology Department of Mubarak AL Kabeer Hospital, and the President of the Kuwait Diabetes Society.

Ahmad Alenizi

Asmaa Al Rashed

Dr. Asmaa Al Rashed is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is board certified and has received her training in General Surgery and Critical Care Fellowship at McGill University, in Montreal, Canada, and completed Laparoscopic Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship in Laval University, Quebec City, Canada. She works as a consultant in general, metabolic and bariatric surgery in the Department of Surgery and a consultant in critical care in Al-Amiri Hospital and Jaber Al-Ahmed Hospital in Kuwait. She held numerous academic and leadership roles and has been invited as a speaker by prestigious international academic institutions and professional societies. Dr. Al Rashed’s research and clinical work focus on quality of care in obesity and metabolic and bariatric surgery, digital transformation in healthcare, and in achieving equity in surgery. Dr. Al-Rashed’s vision and leadership have transformed the landscape for women physicians in Kuwait and the MENA region. She founded the Women Surgeons of Kuwait and co-founded the Women Surgeons Research Network (WSKRN). She pursued further specialization and completed her Specialty in Internal Medicine At the Kuwait Institution of Medical Specialty in 2016 Recognizing a growing need for expertise in the care of older adults, Dr. Alwazan sought advanced training in Geriatric Medicine at McMaster University in Canada and completed her geriatric fellowship in 2021. Dr. Alwazan became interested in cognition and, in 2022, sought further training in cognitive and behavioural neurology from the University of Toronto. Since 2022, Dr. Alwazan has been a pivotal part of the geriatric unit at Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital. Her work has significantly advanced the management of complex geriatric syndromes and the advocacy for the well-being of elderly patients. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Alwazan has been a clinical tutor in the internal medicine residency program since 2023. Dr. Alwazan has publications in the field of cognition and is currently working with cognitive experts in Kuwait to establish the first dementia registry in the country.
